    Don’t miss this rare opportunity to visit a Greater Prairie-Chicken booming ground at the height of the booming season every spring. You will witness the majestic ballet of the Greater Prairie-Chicken as they dance for dominance. FHDC staff will accompany you on your trip and provide all the insight you need. Price includes group transportation to the booming ground from the Discovery Center and light breakfast. Limited to 7 participants per trip. Open to ages 18+. Ages 10-17 may be accompanied by an adult.

  3. Walk and Talk: Mushrooms, Fungus & Fun

    April 14, 2018, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Fairmont Park

    Lyndzee Rhine, Naturalist at the Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita, KS, will guide you through a walk-and-talk fungus foray located at the edge of Manhattan city limits. She will provide a basic introduction to the fascinating and increasingly important world of fungi and help you get to know some of the mushrooms that grow in the area. Pre-registration is required. Please register online or by calling 785-587-2726. We will meet on the west side of the main ball field near the restrooms at Fairmont Park. Please wear long pants, long sleeves, tall socks, comfortable walking shoes, and bug spray (in case of ticks).
